Lenovo ThinkPad L390 Yoga Drivers – The successor of the ThinkPad L380 Yoga is here, which Lenovo has aptly called the ThinkPad L390 Yoga. The ThinkPad L Yoga series is characterized as affordable devices that retain the excellent features of their most expensive ThinkPad counterparts. Therefore, these devices are suitable not only for small businesses but also for educational institutions thanks to their affordable price. Private buyers should also look more closely at the ThinkPad L390 Yoga, as it does a lot of what they can do the most expensive devices but at a fraction of the cost.
Lenovo ThinkPad L390 Yoga Drivers – Lenovo sells the ThinkPad L390 Yoga in 3 basic configurations, the cheapest of which starts at €779 (~ US $878). Lenovo equips the base model with an Intel Core i3-8145U processor, 4GB of RAM and a 128 GB SSD along with a Lenovo Active Pen Pro. The most expensive model has a Core i7-8565U processor and currently costs €1,189 (~ US $1,341). The convertible also comes with 8GB of RAM, a 256 GB SSD and the Active Pen Pro. However, the configurations are not fixed, as Lenovo includes up to 32 GB of RAM as an option during the ordering process, for example.
Our review unit is the mid-range model, which Lenovo equips with a Core i5-8265U processor, 8GB of RAM and 256 SSD. This setting costs €1,039 (~ US $1,172) at the time of writing and also comes with an Active Pen Pro.
We have chosen to compare the ThinkPad L390 Yoga with other 13.3-inch convertibles with a similar price, including its predecessor, the L380 Yoga.
Lenovo has refined the screen cover compared to the L380 Yoga. While the latter has an aluminium lid, the L390 Yoga is made of an aluminum and magnesium compound, which is resistant but light. However, the rest of the case is identical, so check out our L380 Yoga review to find out about our thoughts on this case.
Lenovo ThinkPad L390 Yoga Drivers – The internal components are distributed in an identical manner to those of the L380 Yoga. We recommend carefully removing the bottom plate from the box using a flat plastic tool, as Lenovo has secured the plate with several easily damaged retaining clips. Once removed, you can clean or change most components such as the battery, fan, RAM heatsink, SSD and Wi-Fi card. Lenovo has also left a free SO-DIMM slot, simplifying the upgrade to 16 GB of RAM if desired. However, this means that our review unit works in single-channel mode, the limitations of which will be detailed later in this review.
The L390 Yoga has a 13.3-inch IPS touch screen that works natively to 1.920 x 1.080. The panel also has a pixel density of 166 PPI and an aspect ratio of 16:9. Unfortunately, the company does not offer an optional UHD or WQHD panel.
Our review unit reached a maximum average brightness of 295 CD/m², which is just below 300 cd/m² that Lenovo details in the L390 Yoga spec sheet. However, the screen reached 300 cd/m² or brighter at two points on the screen. The L390 Yoga ends second in our comparison table here, but it is 5% darker than its predecessor. The two converts of the ThinkPad L Yoga series share the same black value, which results in the L390 yoga achieving a contrast of 1.423:1.
Positively, our test device barely suffers from background light bleeding, which is better than many other laptops we’ve tested. In addition, while the L390 Yoga uses pulse width modulation (PWM) to regulate the luminosity of the screen, which can cause eye fatigue and headaches in some people, the frequency is so high that it should not cause problems even those who are PWM-sensitive. We measure a PWM frequency of 1.000 Hz, for reference.
The colors are vibrating on our test device thanks to its good contrast ratio, but its Delta E-2000 deviations were too high at the time of delivery. L380 Yoga also had problems in this respect, but L390 yoga is even higher. However, we significantly improved the color accuracy of our review unit with an additional calibration, the associated ICC profile that we have included in the top box of our comparison table.
